'We are a family of 8 adults and 4 children under the age of 5"......that's how the email started.  My immediate reaction- SIGN ME UP!  Did I say that???  Just as recently as 2 years ago, this sentence would have made me tremble in my boots.  Since having my son Bodhi, I can't get enough of photographing children, especially itty bitties!

I have always been an empathetic person, however, after having a child, my compassion has skyrocketed.  I now feel connected with people in a different way. I feel like I am in a special club that I didn't know existed before -the parent club, and I couldn't be happier. I understand how it is impossible to explain just how much you love your child.  I understand how it is actually FUN sitting and watching your child play in the sand for hours on end.  How it is the best day ever riding a bike through the neighborhood not mountain biking single track.  I get it now.  I get why it is amazing to watch your child catch a ball, play with trains or just smile.  I even can comprehend how parents spend hour after countless hour riding the magic carpet up the ski hill only to get 50 feet of vertical skiing and still be smiling ON A POWDER DAY nonetheless.  I understand just how fast their little hands grow, their gummy grins change to toothy smiles and how each and every parent is totally in love with their baby.  Most of all, I understand just how important the photos that I capture of these little moments are and I feel privileged to create memories that will be cherished for a lifetime and shared with generations to come!

The Douglas family is from Los Angeles, California.  They were staying at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake. This was their first visit to Whitefish, Montana, and I don't think it will be their last!

We scheduled the photo shoot for 8:30 am to coordinate with nap time for the babies.  This August morning happened to be only 45 degrees at 8:30 am.    I was not sure how everyone would handle these temps but they all arrived looking like a million bucks and smiling from ear to ear.  The weather hadn't phased them at all!

I had come prepared with my bag of tricks- squeaky stuffies, rattles, step stools, a singing frog puppet and a surprise bag of treats.  You never know what is going to get a child to smile- but today the singing frog puppet was magic!  Honestly, these children were the happiest and smiliest children ever! Even Capri, the 6 month old, couldn't stop from showing a cheeky grin!
