As a Whitefish Montana engagement photographer, sessions like this remind me why I love what I do. When Blane and Maribeth planned their engagement session in Whitefish, we envisioned capturing their love story at the summit of Whitefish Mountain Resort. But Montana weather had other plans. When we arrived, the mountaintop was completely socked in with rain and clouds, so we pivoted and headed to The Lodge at Whitefish Lake instead — and it turned out to be the perfect decision.

A Rainy Day Engagement Session at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake

When rain rolled in at the summit of Whitefish Mountain Resort and changed our original plan, The Lodge at Whitefish Lake became the perfect backup location for their engagement session in Whitefish. One of the things I always tell couples is that Montana weather can be unpredictable — but that’s often when the magic happens.

The soft, overcast light created by the clearing storm gave their engagement photos at Whitefish Lake a moody and romantic feel. Instead of bright sun, we had beautifully diffused light reflecting off the lake, which made every image feel intimate and timeless.
